Miami Marlins’ star pitcher, is off to a strong start this spring. In his two spring training appearances, the right-hander has thrown three scoreless innings. Even more impressively, the former Cy Young Award winner has consistently hit around 100 MPH with his fastball. Returning from Tommy John surgery with such dominance, The Youngster is shaping up to be a highly sought-after trade target.
FanSided’s Jacob Mountz recently speculated that the Boston Red Sox could be a prime contender to acquire Alcantara if he becomes available. “Right now, Boston has two seemingly dependable starters in Garrett Crochet and Tanner Houck, along with intriguing options like Walker Buehler, Brayan Bello, Kutter Crawford, and the returning Lucas Giolito,” Mountz noted. “Bringing in Alcantara wouldn’t just give the Red Sox a new ace—it would also provide much-needed depth to their rotation. As things stand, Boston may be the team most motivated to make this deal happen.”
A trade to the Red Sox would make perfect sense for Alcantara. Boston possesses a deep farm system that could be leveraged to acquire a controllable ace like the Marlins’ right-hander. Additionally, since the Red Sox are in the American League while the Marlins play in the National League, a deal would keep Alcantara out of Miami’s direct competition. Pairing Alcantara with Garrett Crochet at the top of the rotation could significantly boost Boston’s chances of winning the division—and possibly even contending for a World Series title.
