The New York Giants may not land Matthew Stafford or Cooper Kupp, but they could pivot to Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams instead, especially in light of recent developments regarding Adams.
He was placed on the trading block on Sunday, March 2, and if the New York Jets fail to find a trade partner, they plan to release him, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
A player of His caliber should draw interest from the Giants, particularly since his next destination may be linked to where his former Green Bay Packers teammate, Rodgers, ends up in 2025. Adams reunited with Rodgers on the Jets last season, and with the 41-year-old quarterback also set to hit free agency, signing him could help compensate for missing out on Stafford.
Stafford ultimately remained with the Los Angeles Rams despite rumored interest from the Giants. Had he been acquired, he might have brought Kupp along as well, but a Rodgers-Adams duo could be just as impactful.
CBS Sports’ Dan Schneier supports this idea, noting that while some envisioned a Stafford-Kupp pairing, the Giants could instead bring in Rodgers and Adams without sacrificing draft capital. He also highlighted the team’s financial flexibility and the possibility of still drafting a quarterback at No. 3 overall.
While there are valid concerns about pursuing Rodgers, there is a strong case for the Giants to target Adams.
Davante Adams Would Be a Valuable Addition
Bringing in Adams makes sense for the Giants. Despite a slight statistical dip in 2024, he remains an elite receiver, surpassing 1,000 yards for the fifth consecutive season. However, splitting time between the Jets and the Las Vegas Raiders contributed to his lowest total since 2019. Even so, he displayed flashes of his All-Pro form, such as a precise route against the Chargers in Week 1.
Renowned for his technical skill and route-running, Adams excels at creating separation. His ability to manipulate defenders with subtle movements has made him one of the league’s premier receivers since entering the NFL in 2014.
The Giants Should Be Cautious with Rodgers
While Rodgers still possesses elite arm talent, signing a 41-year-old quarterback with a history of ankle injuries carries significant risk. Additionally, concerns about his professionalism have surfaced in recent years.
The Giants have reportedly explored veteran quarterback options, with Rodgers among those considered, per SNY.tv’s Connor Hughes. However, he is not necessarily their top target. Given these factors, it may be wiser for the Giants to pursue a different veteran signal-caller—potentially another Super Bowl winner recently mentioned by general manager Joe Schoen.
