The St. Louis Cardinals are reportedly working to trade third baseman Nolan Arenado this year. However, his sizable contract and no-trade clause have made moving him a challenge. As the season progresses, the Cardinals may become more open to striking a deal.
Jared Bloom of Sportskeeda recently predicted that the New York Yankees could ultimately acquire Arenado, despite him not yet listing them as a preferred destination. “The St. Louis Cardinals have spent the MLB offseason searching for trade partners for Nolan Arenado,” Bloom wrote. “They want to create roster flexibility and prioritize their younger talent. The New York Yankees could emerge as a potential landing spot, as they have a need at third base and are aiming for their 28th World Series title.”
The Yankees have reportedly had their eye on Arenado for some time, and the move would make sense. New York’s infield needs reinforcement, and Arenado would provide a major upgrade. Although his offensive production has slightly declined, he remains one of the greatest defensive infielders in MLB history. Pairing his glove with Anthony Volpe on the left side of the infield would be a significant boost, and his bat would slot well into the middle of the Yankees’ lineup. However, Arenado would have to approve a trade to New York, which remains uncertain.
