There has been plenty of NFL news involving former Georgia football stars this offseason, but the most talked-about player is quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Stafford has spent four seasons as the Los Angeles Rams’ QB, leading them to a Super Bowl victory in his first year. However, as the offseason began, uncertainty surrounded his future with the team, as the Rams granted him permission to explore trade options.
After a week of discussions and interest from multiple teams, Stafford ultimately signed a new contract with the Rams, securing his place in LA for at least two more seasons. That wasn’t the only big news regarding Stafford, though. The Rams have also made a major move to bolster their offense by signing an elite wide receiver.
Rams Add Firepower for Stafford
According to Kevin Patra of NFL.com, the Rams have inked wide receiver Davante Adams to a two-year, $46 million deal.
This signing carries major implications, not just for Stafford but for the entire organization, as the Rams have reportedly been looking to trade their current star receiver, Cooper Kupp. If Kupp is dealt, Adams would step in as a top target immediately.
However, if Kupp remains with the team, the Rams would suddenly boast one of the league’s most dangerous receiving corps, with Adams, Kupp, and standout Puka Nacua forming an elite trio. Given Stafford’s arm strength and skill, this could make for a dynamic and explosive passing attack.
Regardless of what happens with Kupp, Stafford now has a new top-tier weapon, and his connection with Adams could quickly become one of the NFL’s most dominant duos.
