The former Super Bowl MVP and NFL Offensive Player of the Year is heading to the Seattle Seahawks, only days after being released by the Los Angeles Rams, their NFC West rival. Multiple NFL insiders broke the news Friday afternoon, and Kupp confirmed it shortly after with a social media post.
Cooper Kupp, a 31-year-old from Yakima and former Eastern Washington standout, was selected by the Rams in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He made an immediate impact, hauling in 62 passes for 869 yards and five touchdowns in his rookie season.
In 2019, Kupp surpassed 1,000 receiving yards and recorded double-digit touchdowns for the first time in his career.
His most remarkable season came in 2021, which also ranked among the best by any receiver in NFL history. Kupp led the league with 145 receptions, 1,947 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 114.5 yards per game, earning the Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year honor.A cornerstone of both the franchise and the community, Kupp’s legacy is irreplaceable. pic.twitter.com/67isYdQFcz — Los Angeles Rams (@RamsNFL) March 12, 2025
Kupp continued his postseason excellence, leading all players with 33 catches, 478 yards, and six touchdowns. This included an MVP performance in the Super Bowl against Cincinnati, where he recorded eight catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns.
In the years following, injuries have kept Kupp sidelined for about a third of each season. However, when healthy, he remains productive, finishing the 2024 season with 67 receptions on 100 targets for 710 yards and six touchdowns.

Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 207 pounds, Kupp is currently tied for 80th on the NFL’s all-time receptions list.
Following his historic 2021 campaign, the Rams rewarded Kupp with a three-year, $80.1 million contract extension. However, due to a nearly $30 million salary cap hit in 2025, the Rams opted to clear space by attempting to trade him before ultimately releasing him.
Kupp’s departure from LA had been anticipated, as he revealed in February that the Rams planned to trade him. The Rams officially released him at the start of the new NFL league year on Wednesday.
