The Cincinnati Reds are gearing up for their first season under new manager. While this will be his debut season leading the team, Francona brings a wealth of experience from his time as both a player and a manager.
A two-time World Series-winning skipper, Francona aims to make an impact in Cincinnati as he returns to the dugout after stepping down from managing the Cleveland Guardians in 2023. His decision to retire was largely driven by a desire to focus on his health. After 11 straight seasons at the helm of Cleveland, Francona spent the 2024 MLB season away from managing. However, he insists he didn’t particularly miss the job.
“I’ve been telling people, and I don’t think they really believed me, but I honestly didn’t miss it that much,” Francona told USA TODAY’s Bob Nightengale. “I had a good year. When you know it’s time to step away, you’ve probably waited too long already.”
