Aaron Rodgers might choose to retire, or he could continue playing for another season or two.
“As of now, the Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves in a similar situation to Aaron Rodgers—they’re uncertain about his plans,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on Get Up Thursday morning. “Many around the league are questioning whether Rodgers will even return to play. Since he hasn’t spoken on the matter himself, there’s no clear answer yet.”
Minnesota has acknowledged having recent discussions with Aaron Rodgers, leaving open the possibility of him joining the team. However, Pittsburgh is still considered the frontrunner for his services.
The Steelers recently lost quarterbacks Justin Fields (to the Jets) and Russell Wilson (to the Giants), creating a major gap in their roster.“For weeks now, the Pittsburgh Steelers have shown interest in Aaron Rodgers, but they’ve yet to receive any clarity from him,” Adam Schefter reported. “On Friday, he met with the Steelers’ coaches for about six hours, discussing what a partnership might look like. However, there’s still no definitive answer on Rodgers’ plans.”
Despite making headlines off the field, Rodgers has remained productive on it. After suffering an Achilles tear early in the previous season, he bounced back in 2024, throwing for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. While this isn’t as efficient as his previous streak of 11 straight seasons with single-digit interceptions, it’s still a strong performance.
With key offseason additions like DK Metcalf, the Steelers aim to be highly competitive. Rodgers could be a significant asset—if he decides to play.
“There are some who believe he may sit out this season,” Schefter added. “Others think he’s waiting to see if a spot opens up in Minnesota. But ultimately, no one knows for certain what Rodgers’ plan is. For now, the Steelers remain in limbo.”
