BOMBSHELL: Trade Bait, ESPN’s Rich Cimini Confirms Flip Commit Of $18 Million Starter

New York Jets linebacker’ future with the team may be uncertain.

According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini on his “Flight Deck” podcast, Williams is a “tradeable commodity,” and teams like the Atlanta Falcons—where defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich is looking for speed—could have interest in him. Cimini suggested keeping an eye on the situation.

Under the previous leadership of general manager Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh, Williams was reportedly assured he would receive a contract extension before the 2025 season. However, with both Douglas and Saleh fired midway through the 2024 season, that promise may no longer stand.

Cimini speculated that the new regime, led by GM Darren Mougey, may not extend Williams’ contract, despite his strong performance. Williams, who was a first-team All-Pro two years ago, is currently earning $6 million per year—well below what he deserves.Darren Mougey, JetsWilliams is entering the final season of his $18 million contract and is set to become a free agent in 2026. If the Jets don’t trade him, he could finish out the year in New York and then leave in free agency.

Currently, there are no clear in-house replacements for him on the roster. However, the Jets could look to address the potential vacancy in the upcoming draft.

Cimini mentioned Georgia linebacker Jalon Walker as a potential target for the Jets with the No. 7 overall pick in April’s draft. While primarily an off-ball linebacker, Walker has the versatility to rush the passer as well. With edge rushers Jermaine Johnson and Will McDonald already in place, adding Walker could further strengthen the Jets’ defense. His skill set, leadership, and character align with what new head coach Aaron Glenn values, making him a strong candidate for New York in the top 10.
