TRADE ALERT: NFL insider Jordan Schultz Gives update about Veteran Ahead of reunion, Mixed opinions from fans

A familiar face is set to make his way back to the Seattle Seahawks’ headquarters on Monday. The big question: will he leave Renton with a new deal in hand?

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports that Shaquill Griffin, a third-round pick from the 2017 NFL Draft, is visiting the Seahawks. Griffin most recently played on a one-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings and is currently a free agent.

Griffin’s First Stint in Seattle

Griffin spent four seasons with the Seahawks after being drafted in 2017. Initially expected to back up Jeremy Lane and Richard Sherman, Griffin quickly rose up the ranks. Lane was benched midseason, and after Sherman suffered a torn Achilles, Griffin took over as Seattle’s top cornerback. He held that role through the end of the 2020 season.

During his time in Seattle, Griffin totaled 249 tackles, 48 passes defended, six interceptions, and even sacked Dak Prescott as a rookie.

A Winding Road Since Leaving the Seahawks

Griffin left Seattle in 2021 to sign a lucrative three-year, $40 million deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, returning to his home state of Florida. However, a mix of injuries and uneven performances led to his release after just two seasons.Shaquem Griffin, who broke into NFL as one-handed player, retires | Fox NewsIn 2023, he bounced between the Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers before finding stability with the Minnesota Vikings in 2024. That season marked a bit of a comeback, as Griffin played every game and snagged a couple of interceptions—something he hadn’t done since 2018.

Surprisingly, Griffin is still only 29 years old.

Seattle’s Cornerback Situation in Flux

With Tre Brown and Artie Burns both gone via free agency, the Seahawks are reshaping their cornerback depth chart. Devon Witherspoon and Riq Woolen remain entrenched as starters, and Seattle re-signed Josh Jobe, but the rest of the position group remains uncertain. They also brought in Shemar Jean-Charles from the Saints, though he’ll likely be competing for a backup spot.

Griffin’s return visit could signal Seattle’s interest in adding veteran depth and familiarity to their secondary.
