After wrapping up a dismal 24-58 season—possibly one of the worst in franchise history—the Philadelphia 76ers are still holding out hope for a championship, banking on the return of All-Stars Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George.
Team president Daryl Morey confirmed both he and head coach Nick Nurse will be back next season, as will the team’s Big Three—presumably healthy after all three suffered major injuries that limited them to just 15 games together.
Despite doubts, especially around Embiid’s durability following another knee surgery, Morey insists the trio will be 100% by training camp. He also pledged to build a younger, more athletic supporting cast this summer to help navigate future injury concerns.
Injuries plagued the entire team: Maxey broke a finger, George dealt with groin and knee issues, and Embiid played just 19 games. The trio’s limited time together led to a 7-8 record when all were active.
George admitted the move to Philly and personal stress weighed on him, but promised a stronger showing next year. Meanwhile, Embiid’s extended absence—he’s now missed nearly half of all regular season games since being drafted—continues to cloud the team’s future.
The Sixers missed the playoffs for the first time since 2016-17 but still hold favorable draft lottery odds and key assets. Morey defended the team’s aggressive offseason moves and said the goal remains the same: build around Embiid and contend for a title, assuming health is finally on their side
