The New Orleans Saints may be eyeing a potential move for veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Despite meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers in March, Rodgers has yet to make a decision. With Saints quarterback Derek Carr dealing with a shoulder injury, New Orleans could become another viable destination for the four-time MVP—aside from retirement or joining the Steelers.
Though the Saints, holding the No. 9 pick in the NFL Draft, might look for a young QB, Rodgers’ name is reportedly in the mix following Carr’s setback.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport mentioned to Saints insider Nick Underhill that New Orleans might explore the option of signing Rodgers, though no official steps have been taken.
“Pittsburgh is probably the better team,” Rapoport said. “I’d expect New Orleans to at least consider him. I just don’t know how interested Rodgers would be, considering the state of their roster—it’s not bad, but it’s not quite where the Steelers are.”
With a fresh coaching staff led by new head coach Kellen Moore, formerly the Eagles’ offensive coordinator, the Saints are in a transitional phase rather than a win-now mindset.
Rodgers’ intentions remain uncertain. He visited Pittsburgh’s facilities and reportedly worked out with DK Metcalf, but no final decision has been made. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that the Steelers already have contract terms ready if Rodgers chooses them.
Currently, the Steelers have Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson on the roster and are expected to draft a quarterback, possibly in the early or middle rounds of the NFL Draft.
