Austin Riley belted two home runs and drove in five runs, while Sean Murphy also homered as the Atlanta Braves defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 8-4 on Monday night, securing their second road win of the season.
Braves right-hander Grant Holmes held the Blue Jays hitless until Myles Straw led off the sixth inning with a homer.
Holmes (1-1) delivered a career-high 7 2/3 innings, giving up three runs and two hits.
He exited the game with two outs and runners on first and third. Tyler Heineman doubled off left-hander Aaron Bummer, driving in two runs, but Bo Bichette struck out to end the threat.
The Braves ended a six-game losing streak in Toronto, marking their first road win against the Blue Jays in that stretch.
Atlanta achieved the victory without regular designated hitter Marcell Ozuna, who traveled home after Sunday’s loss to Tampa Bay for tests on his sore hip. Ozuna is considered day-to-day.
Blue Jays left-hander Easton Lucas, who had been solid in his first two starts of the season, struggled against the Braves. Murphy launched a two-run homer in the first inning, his fourth of the year, and Riley extended the lead to 4-0 with a two-run shot in the third.
