NFL Draft: Sean McVay Makes Mind-blowing Decision on signing Aging super-Star.

Despite ongoing speculation, the Los Angeles Rams don’t appear to be urgently searching for quarterback Matthew Stafford’s eventual replacement. During last week’s NFC Coach’s Breakfast, head coach Sean McVay shared that scouting quarterbacks hasn’t been a major focus for him heading into the upcoming NFL Draft.

“I haven’t done a whole lot of work on the quarterbacks,” McVay said. “I feel really good about our quarterback room. Of course, we’re aware that Matthew may only have a couple more seasons left, and he’s earned the right to decide if he wants to retire after this year. I’m hopeful that’s not the case.”

Now 37, Stafford has proven he’s still capable on the field, bouncing back with two solid seasons after an injury-shortened 2022. Behind him, the Rams re-signed Jimmy Garoppolo to a contract worth $4.505 million guaranteed (with up to $9 million in incentives), and still have 2023 fourth-round pick Stetson Bennett under contract.

While it’s hard to believe the Rams aren’t at least thinking about the future at the position, McVay hasn’t ruled out adding a new quarterback. “I haven’t studied them enough to have a strong opinion,” he said of this year’s draft class. “I don’t think it’s likely—but maybe.”

Rather than spending a first-round pick, the Rams might target a quarterback in the third round, where they currently hold the 90th and 101st selections.
