Clemson guard may be closing the door on a return to the Tigers for the 2025–26 season.
After transferring from Boston College, where he spent three solid seasons averaging over 10 points per game, Zackery quickly became a fan favorite at Clemson. Though initially expected to be a one-year addition, he expressed interest in returning after Clemson’s surprising early exit from the NCAA Tournament at the hands of McNeese. He mentioned that he’d love to come back—if he could secure another year of eligibility.
However, that dream might be fading. On Monday, Zackery officially entered the transfer portal, possibly signaling that he’s given up on returning to Clemson.
According to *The Athletic*, Zackery confirmed his decision to explore other options. He wrapped up a career-best season at Clemson, putting up 11.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game while shooting efficiently: 45% from the field, 36% from three-point range, and 82% from the free-throw line. His shooting ability was instrumental in the Tigers’ impressive 27-7 season, coming off an Elite Eight appearance the year before.
If this news surprised you, it might be tough to learn that Ian Schieffelin has also entered the portal, though he has no remaining eligibility.
Whether Zackery or Schieffelin can find a path to continue playing remains to be seen—but it’d be tough for Clemson fans to see them suiting up elsewhere next season.
