The Atlanta Braves continued to reinforce their struggling bullpen by acquiring right-handed reliever Scott Blewett from the Baltimore Orioles in a cash deal. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, they designated left-hander José Suarez for assignment.
Blewett, 29, is now with his third team in under a week. He began the 2025 season with the Minnesota Twins, appearing in two games before being DFA’d and claimed by the Orioles. After two outings with Baltimore, he was designated for assignment again, this time landing with Atlanta.
Despite bouncing around, Blewett has impressed in limited MLB action. Over nine innings split between the Twins and Orioles, he’s posted a 1.00 ERA, with 11 strikeouts and just one walk. Since his 2021 debut, he’s put together a 1.93 ERA in 37 1/3 innings, featuring a 23.1% strikeout rate and a 2.16 SIERA. While not a hard-thrower, Blewett effectively uses pitch variety to generate swings and misses while keeping walks to a minimum.
