Niko Medved has added another frontcourt player from the transfer portal, bringing the Minnesota roster to 10 players for the upcoming season. Let’s get to know Nehemiah Turner.
Turner, a native of Auburndale—a city located roughly halfway between Orlando and Tampa—played his high school ball locally before accepting a scholarship to Central Arkansas. His freshman year started off rocky, with limited production through January, but everything changed in February.
In the final stretch of the season, Turner started receiving more consistent playing time—thanks in part to injuries within the team—and made the most of it. He went from averaging about 4 points per game to putting up 19.5 points over his final 10 games. Notable performances included 24 points and 6 boards in the regular season finale at Lipscomb, and an explosive 37-point, 11-rebound effort in the ASUN tournament opener vs. Stetson.
That late-season surge made Turner a hot commodity in the portal, and now he’ll head to Minnesota, where he’ll battle Robert Vaihola for minutes at the center spot.
Coming in as a sophomore, Turner adds long-term value to the Gophers’ roster, and the coaching staff is hopeful they can continue to develop his game over the next few years.
