Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider has never been shy about making trades. In the past, he pulled off notable moves to acquire left tackle Duane Brown in 2018, Jadeveon Clowney in 2019, and Jamal Adams in 2020—though the Adams deal didn’t pan out as hoped.
In recent years, Seattle has focused more on building through the draft and avoiding big spending in free agency. While Schneider has continued making trades, none have had the same impact as those earlier acquisitions. That could soon change, thanks to an idea proposed by Hayden Victoria of Pro Football Network: the Seahawks potentially trading for Dallas Cowboys star edge rusher Micah Parsons.
Seahawks potentially targeting Cowboys’ Micah Parsons
Parsons reportedly isn’t thrilled that the Cowboys haven’t yet offered him a long-term extension. While he would command a massive contract, his performance justifies it—posting at least 13 sacks in each of his first three seasons, including 12 sacks in just 13 games last year. He’s also a strong run defender.
However, Dallas faces serious cap challenges, particularly in 2026, when they’ll have only around $5 million in available space—likely not enough to re-sign Parsons without cutting key players.
Seattle, by contrast, is among the top 10 teams in projected cap space over the next three years. Although rookie contracts for players like Charles Cross (expiring in 2026), Kenneth Walker III, and Boye Mafe (both expiring in 2025) will soon need to be addressed, the Seahawks are still in a stronger financial position.
Parsons would be an ideal fit in head coach Mike Macdonald’s defensive scheme and could help mitigate the potential loss of Mafe. His talent is elite, and his addition could elevate Seattle’s defense significantly.
Victoria doesn’t specify what the Seahawks might offer in return, but a package could include Mafe and at least one first-round pick. Other teams could enter the bidding as well, including the Falcons, Patriots, Chargers, and Jets.
If Schneider has an opportunity to land Parsons, it’s a move he should strongly consider. Seattle can afford him—and he could be a game-changer on defense.
