The #Braves announced Friday that they have claimed left-handed pitcher Joey Wentz off waivers from the Minnesota Twins and designated right-hander Kevin Herget for assignment.Wentz, once a top-10 prospect in the Braves organization, was dealt to the Tigers in 2019 in exchange for reliever Shane Greene. He debuted in the majors in 2022 but struggled to find success, compiling a 5.81 ERA over 70 outings (26 starts) with Detroit.
In 2025, Wentz has worked exclusively out of the bullpen for both the Pirates and Twins, posting a rough 6.88 ERA across 20 appearances. Whether he’ll actually take the mound for Atlanta remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: he’s unlikely to be the solution to the Braves’ ongoing pitching issues.
