Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has been a major focus this offseason after missing significant time in training camp due to a back injury. Despite vague updates from head coach Sean McVay and questions surrounding his recovery, Stafford has returned to practice following two undisclosed back treatments.
All signs now point to him starting in Week 1 against the Houston Texans this Sunday at 1:25 p.m. PT. While back injuries can be unpredictable, Stafford isn’t letting it distract him. Speaking before Wednesday’s practice, he emphasized that he’s ready to play without hesitation:
> “I’m going to play the game,” Stafford said. “Whatever happens, happens. I’m playing the way I always do. I’m not worried about the physicality. Obviously, I’d prefer to stay clean, but it’s not on my mind. I’m ready to go.”
Known for his toughness and history of playing through injuries, Stafford appears determined to lead the Rams without showing signs of concern. His mindset is encouraging for a Rams team with championship aspirations, as they look to compete with top NFC contenders like the Eagles, Packers, and Buccaneers.
If Stafford’s back becomes a problem down the road, the Rams will address it then.
Kyren Williams Prepared for Smaller Role in Rams’ Offense
Running back Kyren Williams is coming off a career-best season, finishing with 1,299 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. Only Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry had more carries than Williams’ 316.
Entering his fourth year, Williams remains the starter but may see fewer touches with strong depth behind him, including second-year RB Blake Corum and rookie Jarquez Hunter. Williams is embracing the situation and is focused on making the most of his opportunities.
