Former Dodgers pitcher has been suspended under MLB’s domestic violence policy.
He previously with the Los Angeles Dodgers, has been suspended until the 2025 All-Star break due to multiple domestic violence incidents, Major League Baseball announced Friday.
The 28-year-old last played in the majors on September 1, 2023. Two days later, he assaulted his wife in a parking lot outside a professional soccer match in Los Angeles. In April, he was charged with five misdemeanors and later pleaded no contest in May 2024. As a result, he was sentenced to three years of probation, required to complete 30 days of community labor, and attend a one-year domestic violence course, according to the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office. Additional conditions include a ban on possessing weapons, a prohibition on using force or violence, restitution to the victim, and compliance with a protective order.MLB had been investigating the incident, which was caught on video, since placing Urías on administrative leave in September 2023. He became a free agent after the season, and by the time his suspension ends, most teams will have played nearly 100 games in 2025.
Urías, who holds a career 3.11 ERA over 717 innings, is the first player to receive multiple suspensions under MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse Policy. He previously served a 20-game suspension in 2019 following an arrest for suspected domestic battery. Though he was not prosecuted, he was required to complete a 52-week domestic violence counseling program.
