Boogie Fland Shocks the SEC: Arkansas Guard Commits to Florida Gators in Stunning Twist.

Florida made a major addition in the transfer portal with the commitment of Arkansas guard Boogie Fland on Tuesday morning, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Fland, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound guard from the Bronx, New York, posted impressive numbers in his freshman season, averaging 13.5 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game. He shot 37.9% from the floor, 34.0% from beyond the arc, and 83.3% from the free-throw line.

Though he returned from a two-month injury layoff during the NCAA Tournament, Fland struggled to find his rhythm. He scored just six points across games against Kansas and St. John’s and went scoreless in nine minutes during the Sweet 16 loss to Texas Tech.Florida basketball lands Arkansas transfer Boogie FlandDespite his late-season struggles, Fland earned national recognition, being named a finalist for the Kyle Macy Award, which honors the country’s top freshman, and receiving Freshman All-America honors from CollegeInsider.com.

Coming out of Archbishop Stepinac High School in the 2024 class, Fland was a five-star recruit and McDonald’s All American. He initially entered the NBA Draft while preserving his college eligibility and participated in the NBA Combine. Ranked No. 42 on ESPN’s draft board and projected as a second-round pick, he ultimately chose to return to college for another year.

Fland visited Gainesville on Monday before announcing his decision to transfer to Florida.

With the departure of three senior guards and Denzel Aberdeen to Kentucky, the Gators are looking to reload after their National Championship run. Fland brings much-needed scoring and transition playmaking, key attributes sought by head coach Todd Golden and his staff. He joins Xaivian Lee (Princeton) and AJ Brown (Ohio) as Florida’s transfer additions this offseason.

If forward Alex Condon decides to withdraw from the 2025 NBA Draft, Florida will still have one open scholarship available.
