The San Francisco 49ers have already made one major trade this offseason, but could another be on the horizon? The focus now shifts to quarterback Brock Purdy and his future with the team. After trading wide receiver to the Washington Commanders for a fifth-round pick on Saturday, speculation is growing that The Youngster might be next.
Although general manager John Lynch has expressed a desire to keep Him in San Francisco long-term, the potential cost could be a hurdle. The former Iowa State quarterback may command a salary of around $50 million per season, making it difficult for the team to afford. Because of this, TWSN’s Marissa Myers predicts the 49ers could trade Purdy to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for the No. 1 overall pick.“The 49ers had crucial contract decisions to make,” Myers wrote, referring to extensions for Trent Williams, Brandon Aiyuk, and Purdy. The team opted to sign Aiyuk to a four-year, $120 million deal and extend Williams on a three-year, $82.69 million contract. With limited cap space remaining, prioritizing Williams over Purdy suggests they value their top offensive lineman but may not yet be ready to commit to Purdy long-term.
Additionally, the 49ers appear to be restructuring their roster with a focus on younger talent. By trading Samuel and considering offers for Aiyuk, Purdy could also be moved to acquire more draft capital to support this transition.
