The Philadelphia 76ers have signed former Toronto Raptors center Colin Castleton to a 10-day contract, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer. With constant lineup changes due to injuries and new signings, Castleton will become the 29th player to suit up for the Sixers this season.
This move is the latest in a series of 10-day contracts for Philadelphia as they near the end of a disappointing regular season. If his deal is finalized by Wednesday or Thursday, Castleton will be eligible to play in five of the team’s final six games. The former All-SEC First Team member from Florida would require another short-term deal to complete the season.Castleton, a 6-foot-10, 24-year-old center, went undrafted and began his NBA career last season with the Los Angeles Lakers, playing in 16 games. He then signed a two-way contract with the Memphis Grizzlies this season, making 10 appearances before getting a more prominent role with the Raptors due to injuries.
During his 10 games with Toronto, including four starts (one against Philadelphia), Castleton averaged 6.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 25.9 minutes per game. Known for his rebounding and rim protection, he adds depth behind rookie centers Adem Bona and Alex Reese, who is on a two-way deal and nearing his game limit.
With Joel Embiid out for the season, Guerschon Yabusele managing knee soreness, and Andre Drummond dealing with a toe injury, Castleton could provide valuable frontcourt support. This short stint with the Sixers gives him an opportunity to showcase his skills while the team evaluates a young big man for potential long-term value.
