The Buffalo Bills entered the 2024 season without a clear-cut No. 1 receiver after parting ways with Stefon Diggs. Instead, they adopted a more balanced, “spread the wealth” offensive strategy — and it paid off, as they produced one of the league’s top passing attacks. Still, some league insiders believe the Bills may look to add a true top-tier wideout this offseason.
One name gaining traction is Pro Bowl receiver Terry McLaurin. If the Washington Commanders decide to make him available — a possibility that’s growing as contract negotiations stall — the Bills are seen as a top candidate to acquire him.According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, McLaurin is dissatisfied with the pace of contract extension talks. He’s entering the final year of his $70 million deal, and while Washington hopes to re-sign him before free agency, the two sides are at a standstill. Fowler noted that McLaurin has a personal deadline in mind and that the Commanders have only a limited window to make progress before he considers sitting out of training camp.
Should Washington pivot and put McLaurin on the trade market, the Bills could be one of the leading suitors. Bleacher Report’s Mitchel Milani highlighted McLaurin’s consistent production — five consecutive 1,000-yard seasons despite mediocre quarterback play — and said he would be an ideal fit for Josh Allen.
“Terry McLaurin would be perfect for Josh Allen,” Milani said. “He stretches the field and adds a vertical threat that could make Buffalo’s offense nearly unstoppable.”
While Buffalo lost star receivers Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis this offseason, they may already have a future No. 1 option on the roster. Rookie Keon Coleman flashed serious potential before a hand injury sidelined him for four games and limited his impact down the stretch. Still, he’s widely viewed as a breakout candidate for 2025.
Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton called Coleman the team’s “most promising building block,” noting his 29 receptions for 556 yards and four touchdowns in his debut season.
“In February, the Bills extended Khalil Shakir, their most consistent receiver, but Coleman might have the higher ceiling,” Moton wrote. “If he stays healthy, he could lead the team in several receiving categories next year.”
Bills GM Brandon Beane acknowledged some disappointment in how Coleman’s production dipped after his return from injury but reaffirmed the team’s confidence in his long-term potential, expecting a strong bounce-back in 2025.
