BREAKING: Coby White’s Future in Jeopardy as Chicago Risks Locker Room Shake-Up

Josh Giddey’s long-term role with the Chicago Bulls has become the most discussed topic surrounding the team. After a strong first season, the 22-year-old guard is widely regarded as a foundational piece of the franchise.

Beyond Giddey, there are also uncertainties about Coby White’s future. The former No. 7 overall pick is eligible for an extension next season, but his status with the team is far less secure.

According to Matt Moore via his Hardwood Paroxysm newsletter, there’s growing belief among Eastern Conference insiders that the Bulls may not retain both Giddey and White. “If Giddey is re-signed, White could be on the move,” Moore reported. “That would be an unusually bold move for the Bulls, who are known more for cost-cutting than making drastic changes.”Coby White, Billy Donovan, Chicago BullsWhite has been a key offensive contributor for Chicago, averaging 20.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists last season while shooting 45.3% from the field and 37% from three. Still, concerns about the backcourt’s defensive limitations could lead to changes.

Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that Giddey could pursue a five-year, $150 million deal—similar to what Jalen Suggs secured with the Orlando Magic—aiming for an average annual salary of $30 million or more.

While Giddey’s performance may justify such a contract, the Bulls have a reputation for being frugal. They may try to drive a hard bargain or even let Giddey test the open market before committing to a hefty deal.

Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times supports the idea of letting Giddey gauge his value in restricted free agency. “The Bulls can allow Giddey to explore the market and then decide whether to match any offer he receives,” Cowley wrote. “It’s the strategy they should have used with Patrick Williams.”

Since Giddey is a restricted free agent, the Bulls have the right to match any external offers. Unless another team drastically overpays, Chicago remains in control. Ideally, Giddey’s market won’t be too competitive, giving the Bulls room to negotiate a more team-friendly deal.

However, the team could also opt to meet Giddey’s demands outright. Regardless of the direction they choose, once Giddey’s future is resolved, attention will likely turn to what lies ahead for Coby White in Chicago.
