The MLB trade deadline season is heating up, and for teams like the Detroit Tigers, who are eyeing a serious postseason push, it’s the perfect window to fine-tune their roster. Detroit is in the midst of an exceptional season, fueled by four All-Star hitters — Javy Baez, Riley Greene, Gleyber Torres, and the newly selected Zach McKinstry — not to mention AL Cy Young favorite Tarik Skubal.
Even with all their current success, the Tigers could still make a splash before the July 31st trade deadline by pursuing either another starting pitcher for depth or an upgrade at third base. Sitting at 59-35, Detroit is well on its way to winning the AL Central and currently owns the best record in the majors.Eugenio Suárez Could Be Detroit-Bound
Among the most intriguing teams at the deadline are the Arizona Diamondbacks. They have several tradeable assets that would appeal to contenders, but the big question is whether they’re willing to part with key pieces like third baseman Eugenio Suárez — and only for the right return.
According to Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly, Arizona is expected to eventually move Suárez, with the Tigers projected as his next destination. Acquiring him would solidify Detroit’s infield and provide a major boost for their postseason push.
Kelly writes, “The Diamondbacks are hovering around .500, and while they came into the year with World Series ambitions, the injuries to Corbin Burnes (Tommy John surgery) and Corbin Carroll (wrist fracture) may force GM Mike Hazen to pivot. Sometimes you have to admit it’s not your year. Suárez, one of their top impending free agents, is having another monster season — 29 home runs, an .883 OPS, and his second All-Star selection.”
Suárez is Putting Together His Best Season Yet
Suárez has always been known for his raw power, but this year, everything seems to be clicking. With 29 home runs (fourth in MLB) and 75 RBIs already under his belt before the All-Star break, he’s clearly having a career year. The question now becomes whether Arizona is ready to part with him.
At 33, Suárez is entering free agency after this season and is expected to command a significant contract — a risk Arizona may not be willing to take. Trading him now could bring in one of Detroit’s top prospects along with a major-league-ready pitcher.
If a deal gets done, it would shake up the MLB landscape and significantly increase the Tigers’ chances of capturing a World Series title this October.
