Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings and TNT Tropang Giga will face off one last time to determine the champion of the 2024-25 PBA Commissioner’s Cup tonight at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The decisive Game 7 is set for 7:30 p.m., with Ginebra aiming to secure its first PBA title in over two years, while TNT looks to clinch back-to-back championships this season.
The Gin Kings missed an opportunity to close out the series in Game 6, falling to the Tropang Giga, 87-83, on Wednesday night at the same venue. With the best-of-seven finals now tied at 3-3, both teams are set for a high-stakes showdown.
Ginebra head coach Tim Cone, a veteran of multiple Game 7s, acknowledged the difficulty of preparing for a do-or-die match after a tough loss.“Game 7s are never just another game. They’re tough to prepare for, especially after a defeat,” said Cone, a 25-time PBA champion coach. “We have a lot to figure out in just 24 hours, so our challenge is to be ready.”
On the other hand, Tropang Giga head coach Vincent “Chot” Reyes expressed pride in his team for forcing a Game 7 and giving themselves a shot at the title.
“I just told them before Game 6 to go out there, play hard, and compete—that’s what we wrote on the board: compete,” said Reyes, a 10-time PBA champion coach. “If we lose, so be it. But at least we’re not going down without a fight. Credit to the guys for giving their all.”
A win for the Gin Kings would mark their 16th PBA championship in franchise history, while the Tropang Giga are vying for their 11th title overall.
