Former Georgia standout Lorenzo Carter made a surprising decision to retire from the NFL earlier this week.

The 29-year-old linebacker informed the Tennessee Titans of his decision to step away from football just ahead of the start of training camp. In response, the University of Georgia released a tribute video celebrating Carter’s journey—from his commitment to the Bulldogs to standout moments with Georgia, the New York Giants, and the Atlanta Falcons.Linebacker Lorenzo Carter possesses hidden musical talent | Georgia Sports | redandblack.comBREThe tribute includes highlights from Carter’s football career, such as his memorable performance in the 2018 Rose Bowl, where he blocked a field goal in double overtime to help Georgia secure a thrilling 54-48 win over Oklahoma. That victory played a crucial role in the Bulldogs reaching the National Championship Game.

Though he was no longer on the team when Georgia claimed back-to-back national titles in 2021 and 2022, Carter was instrumental in laying the foundation of the program under head coach Kirby Smart.

A former 5-star recruit from Norcross High School, Carter joined Georgia’s 2014 recruiting class and was later selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He also earned second-team All-SEC honors for his strong play during the 2017 season.
