Former Georgia standout Lorenzo Carter made a surprising decision to retire from the NFL earlier this week.
The 29-year-old linebacker informed the Tennessee Titans of his decision to step away from football just ahead of the start of training camp. In response, the University of Georgia released a tribute video celebrating Carter’s journey—from his commitment to the Bulldogs to standout moments with Georgia, the New York Giants, and the Atlanta Falcons.BREThe tribute includes highlights from Carter’s football career, such as his memorable performance in the 2018 Rose Bowl, where he blocked a field goal in double overtime to help Georgia secure a thrilling 54-48 win over Oklahoma. That victory played a crucial role in the Bulldogs reaching the National Championship Game.
Though he was no longer on the team when Georgia claimed back-to-back national titles in 2021 and 2022, Carter was instrumental in laying the foundation of the program under head coach Kirby Smart.
A former 5-star recruit from Norcross High School, Carter joined Georgia’s 2014 recruiting class and was later selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He also earned second-team All-SEC honors for his strong play during the 2017 season.
