Many New York Giants fans were left scratching their heads when the team chose to retain head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen after a dismal 3-14 record in the 2024 season. Nevertheless, owner John Mara decided to keep both in place heading into the 2025 campaign.
One of the key steps the Giants took to turn things around was to revamp their quarterback situation. In addition to signing veterans Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson during the offseason, the team used their first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to select Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart.
During rookie minicamp on May 10, 2025, at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center in East Rutherford, Jaxson Dart was seen throwing passes, marking the start of his NFL journey. On April 25, 2025, the Giants formally introduced their first-round picks at a press event, where team president John Mara, GM Joe Schoen, head coach Brian Daboll, Jaxson Dart, and Abdul Carter posed for photos.
In an interview with Kay Adams on Thursday, Schoen was asked whether Dart was Daboll’s choice or a shared decision.
“This is Daboll’s guy. Is that what you want me to think, or is that your guy too?” Adams inquired.
Schoen responded,
“It was an organizational decision. Any player we take is the result of a collaborative process.”
While that answer was expected, Schoen also emphasized that Daboll’s offensive expertise was a key factor. Having previously developed Josh Allen during his time as the Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator, Daboll’s experience is seen as an asset in helping Dart grow into a franchise quarterback.
The Giants ultimately chose Dart over Shedeur Sanders, after thoroughly scouting both prospects. Though Dart will begin the season on the bench, the organization believes he has the potential to become their long-term solution at quarterback.
