Following Johni Broome’s declaration for the 2025 NBA Draft, the Auburn Tigers are exploring options to fill the void he leaves behind. One key name emerging in the search is former Florida State forward Malique Ewin. According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Auburn is among the finalists vying for Ewin, along with Kansas, Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Virginia. Ewin has scheduled visits with Arkansas and Mississippi State.Auburn’s season concluded in the Final Four, marking just the second time in program history they reached that stage, ultimately falling to Florida 79-73.
Ewin, once a four-star recruit in the 2022 class, began his college career at Ole Miss, where he averaged 1.4 points over 14 games. He then moved to South Plains (JUCO) before transferring to Florida State, where he emerged as a top talent. Last season, he averaged 14.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, ranking second in scoring for the Seminoles.
Ewin brings similar scoring potential as Broome, who led Auburn with 18.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. Ewin also has a slight height advantage at 6’11” compared to Broome’s 6’10”.
Auburn has already made moves in the transfer portal, adding former UCF forward Keyshawn Hall while parting ways with small forward Jahki Howard. The team also secured commitments from several four-star recruits for 2025, including Sebastian Williams-Adams, Kaden Magwood, Simon Walker, and JUCO center Abdul Bashir.
