BREAKING NEWS: Fans favorite And Versatile QB Eyes New Opportunities, Unlikely to Recommit to Falcons

Before hitting free agency, expressed a desire to stay with the Falcons. While there’s still a chance he could return to Atlanta after his 2024 season debut, he’s not counting on that happening.

“It was a one-year deal,” Simmons said during an interview on Up & Adams. “They’ve got some younger guys they like. Sometimes things just don’t align, and both sides move on. I wouldn’t say the door is completely closed, but we’ll see.”

The Falcons still have Jessie Bates under contract for two more seasons. Simmons joined him late last offseason and served as a full-time starter. He notched two interceptions and seven pass breakups but didn’t quite reach the level of performance he had during his eight standout years in Denver. Still on the market, Simmons may not sign a new contract until after the NFL Draft later this month.Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons picks off Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts' sideline heaveSimmons didn’t join the Falcons until last August, which caused him to miss part of training camp. He hopes to avoid a similar delay this year. With Atlanta letting him test free agency and no apparent push to re-sign him, it’s likely he’ll end up on his third NFL team. Though he could still offer leadership to a safety group featuring Richie Grant and DeMarcco Hellams, one of them may take over his starting role.

Now 31, Simmons is also focused on joining a contender. Despite playing in 134 NFL games, he has never reached the playoffs. While a starting job might not be guaranteed depending on where he lands, the former league leader in interceptions is targeting a team with serious postseason potential.

“I want to find the best fit,” Simmons said. “And more importantly, I want to be with a team that’s built to win. So we’ll see what happens
