The New York Giants have made their first move in addressing the quarterback position this offseason, initially targeting Super Bowl champion. Despite their aggressive pursuit—reportedly offering around $50 million per year—Stafford ultimately chose to remain with the Los Angeles Rams.
This was just the beginning of an offseason in which general manager Joe Schoen vowed to explore every possible avenue to secure a franchise quarterback. The Stafford pursuit had its ups and downs, and at times, there was optimism a deal could be reached. However, with that option off the table, the Giants are shifting their focus to Plan B: acquiring a veteran quarterback who can serve as a bridge while potentially mentoring a young QB from the draft.
With NFL free agency opening on March 10, finding a veteran signal-caller is now the priority. Aaron Rodgers has been mentioned as a possibility, though he’s far from a guaranteed option. Other potential targets include Sam Darnold and Russell Wilson, both of whom the Giants have previously shown interest in. Kirk Cousins could also be in play if the Falcons release him. Regardless of which veteran they sign, the Giants remain committed to selecting a quarterback in the draft.Team owner John Mara has emphasized the need to find a long-term answer at quarterback, and the best way to achieve that might be by trading up for the No. 1 overall pick. Several league sources believe a deal with the Tennessee Titans is likely, potentially targeting Miami’s Cam Ward.
Among draft prospects, Ward is widely considered the top quarterback in what is viewed as a weaker QB class. Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders has received mixed evaluations—some within the Giants’ organization support him, while others believe the team’s interest is a smokescreen. If the Giants don’t secure a quarterback early, they could look to the later first round or Day 2, with Mississippi’s Jaxson Dart and Texas’ Quinn Ewers emerging as strong options.
The evaluation process is ongoing. Schoen and his staff are set to meet with top prospects, host visits, and attend Pro Days before making a final decision. Finding the right quarterback isn’t just about physical talent—it’s also about mental toughness and the ability to handle the pressures of playing in New York.
The search continues, and the Giants are prepared to take more swings before the NFL Draft on April 24.
