Apart from Andrew Painter, the organization’s top prospect who is expected to make his debut in 2025, most other prospects are considered tradeable assets.
According to a trade proposal from Athlon Sports, the Phillies could explore dealing eighth-ranked prospect Mick Abel and infielder Edmundo Sosa to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for power-hitting outfielder Luis Robert Jr. This move would provide the 23-year-old Abel with an opportunity to reset his trajectory and potentially earn big-league innings with Chicago. Abel has struggled in the Phillies’ system, posting a 6.46 ERA over 108.2 innings in 24 starts at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. With time running out for him to establish himself, a fresh start with the White Sox could be beneficial.
Chicago, meanwhile, may be inclined to part ways with Robert Jr., who is under a six-year, $50 million contract that has yet to yield consistent results. Although he had a down year in 2024, Robert Jr. showcased his power in 2023 with 38 home runs and 36 doubles en route to an All-Star selection. A move to Philadelphia, with its more hitter-friendly ballpark, could help him rediscover his offensive form. Additionally, the White Sox could use experienced depth to support their young core, making the 29-year-old Sosa an appealing option. With his defensive versatility and solid bat—hitting .257 in 249 at-bats last season—he would provide valuable contributions to their lineup.
For the Phillies, acquiring a reliable center-field bat remains a priority, and Robert Jr. could be the ideal fit to strengthen their offensive firepower.
