The Los Angeles Rams bolstered their defensive line during free agency by signing former Chargers standout Poona Ford to a three-year deal.
Ford, an underrated veteran, most recently played for the Chargers. He began his NFL journey with the Seattle Seahawks and had a short stint with the Buffalo Bills before landing back in Southern California. The Rams are counting on Ford to make an impact alongside a strong defensive group that includes 2024 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year Jared Verse, as well as Byron Young, Kobie Turner, and Braden Fiske.
Ford shared that he’s already meshing well with his new teammates and is eager to contribute in any way possible. Speaking to Wyatt Miller of TheRams.com, he said:
“Everybody relies on one another—it feels like a real family. I’m excited to be part of this group. I just want to find my role and bring some of my experience to the table.”
Known as one of the NFL’s premier run defenders, Ford is expected to be a valuable addition to the Rams’ front line. He’s coming off a career-best season with the Chargers, posting 38 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, and three sacks.
Though the Chargers reportedly tried to retain him with a competitive offer, Ford felt drawn to the Rams’ opportunity.
“It all happened pretty fast. The Rams were really aggressive in pursuing me, and I just felt this was the right place for me,” Ford said.
Poona Ford Prioritized Staying in Southern California
After his strong season with the Chargers, Ford admitted that remaining in Los Angeles played a significant role in his decision-making.
“More than I expected, honestly,” he said when asked how much staying out west influenced him.
“I really like it out here. Coming from South Carolina, there’s just something about the West Coast that makes me want to stay.”
