BREAKING: Seahawks $95M standout Surprisingly Cut Ties with Club. Details in comments

Seattle Seahawks standout Jadeveon Clowney is back on the market following a series of roster moves by the Carolina Panthers. If he signs elsewhere, it would be the seventh team Clowney has joined in 12 NFL seasons.

Though his time with Seattle was short, Clowney left a lasting impression—particularly due to a prolonged contract standoff during the 2020 offseason. The defensive end was chasing a high-value deal, which neither the Seahawks nor any other team ultimately offered, leading him to sign with the Tennessee Titans that year. Now, after a disappointing 5-12 season, the Panthers have decided to part ways with Clowney.Jadeveon ClowneyAccording to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Carolina officially released Clowney on May 8, 2025.

Clowney has since played for the Titans, Browns, Ravens, and Panthers. Cleveland was the only team he suited up for in consecutive seasons. Despite the frequent moves, Clowney has earned over $95 million throughout his career, per Spotrac. He’s a three-time Pro Bowler known for his disruptive presence, even if his sack totals don’t fully capture his impact.

During the 2024 season, Clowney tallied 46 tackles, nine tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks across 14 starts with the Panthers.

Back in 2020, ESPN’s Brady Henderson reported that Clowney turned down a $15 million offer from Seattle, the same max value as his eventual Titans contract, assuming all incentives were met.

As the Seahawks explore roster options, some wonder whether they might pursue Clowney again now that his market value has diminished. General manager John Schneider expressed interest in bringing him back in 2020, though the team eventually had to move forward.

“We made an effort to re-sign him,” Schneider said at the time. “The door is not closed.”

While Seattle has since added DeMarcus Lawrence to their defensive line, other teams could be in play for Clowney—perhaps the Las Vegas Raiders, due to Clowney’s past connection with Pete Carroll. Carroll once remarked that Clowney had his sights set elsewhere during negotiations and wasn’t ready to commit early in free agency.
