Breaking: Seahawks breakthrough barrier Seals Deal to reunite star with Former Teammate…

Sam Darnold says his decision to sign with the Seattle Seahawks was strongly influenced by the presence of offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. The two had previously worked together in 2023 when Darnold was the backup quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, and Kubiak’s system is one Darnold is already familiar with. In an interview, Darnold described Kubiak as a down-to-earth, easygoing coach and said his familiarity with the system made Seattle an appealing destination.

Sam Darnold Says Klint Kubiak Was Key Factor in Signing With Seahawks

Sam Darnold credits his decision to join the Seattle Seahawks in large part to offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. Darnold, who worked with Kubiak during the 2023 season while backing up Brock Purdy with the 49ers, says the familiarity with Kubiak’s system played a major role in his free agency choice.

“Klint’s a blue-collar guy and easy to work with,” said Darnold. “I already know the system from our time together in San Francisco, and that made Seattle an appealing option.”

Seattle parted ways with veteran quarterback Geno Smith, despite his back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances and a playoff run in 2022. With a new coaching regime led by Mike Macdonald, the Seahawks opted for a fresh start at quarterback.

“When I saw the Geno trade happen, I knew joining Seattle could become a reality,” Darnold added. “At this point in my career, I just want to win, and Seattle gives me that shot.”

The Seahawks made several bold moves this offseason, including parting ways with longtime receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, and adding Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp. With a 10-7 record last year—tying the Rams for the best in the NFC West—Seattle is positioned to compete immediately.

Darnold is focused less on stats and more on daily improvement: “I try to be the best I can every single day. If I do that, everything else will fall into place. In this league, results matter, but I just focus on the work.”
