The Los Angeles Rams appear to have found their next dominant defensive player.
Following the retirement of Aaron Donald, it was uncertain who would step up, but Jared Verse is quickly making a name for himself. After an impressive Week 1 performance against the Houston Texans, NFL analyst Brian Baldinger highlighted Verse’s potential and issued a warning to the rest of the league.
“The entire league is on alert about Jared Verse, last year’s Defensive Rookie of the Year,” said Baldinger. “His bull rush is incredible—his strength is legitimate, and it shows no matter who he’s up against. Teams need to double-team him whenever possible. Sometimes, even three blockers aren’t enough to slow him down. It’s real, and it’s obvious on tape. Be careful—this guy is powerful.”
Baldinger even shared a clip on social media, showcasing Verse overpowering offensive linemen and urging teams to provide extra help in blocking him.
With Aaron Donald gone, the Rams needed a new defensive cornerstone, and Verse may be just that. Though it’s still too early to place him in the same category as a legend like Donald, his early performances have been outstanding.
There are still areas Verse needs to improve—mainly in refining his technique and staying more disciplined—but his raw power makes him a major threat on the field.
Once again, the Rams appear to have hit the jackpot in the draft. Despite his standout talent, Verse slid to the 19th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft—a decision that now looks like a major oversight by many teams.
Only time will tell, but early signs suggest the Rams have found a star in Jared Verse.
