As the offseason begins, the Golden State Warriors are aiming to make a significant move in free agency to reestablish themselves as championship contenders for the 2025-26 NBA season. The team ended the 2024-25 regular season with a 48-34 record, finishing 7th in the Western Conference before being eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the playoffs. With roster improvements needed, Naz Reid could be just the kind of addition head coach Steve Kerr is seeking.
Naz Reid is entering free agency this summer, and with rumors suggesting Minnesota may pursue a blockbuster move for Kevin Durant, it’s uncertain whether the Timberwolves will retain him.The Warriors need reinforcements in the frontcourt. As Draymond Green nears the twilight of his career, Reid could step into a starting role right away if signed. Green, who has been playing center, might shift back to forward, allowing Reid to take over at center. Currently, Buddy Hield holds the small forward spot.
Although Reid primarily came off the bench for the Timberwolves — earning the Sixth Man of the Year honor last season — he could either start or serve as a key contributor off the bench in Golden State. His scoring ability and high energy would be valuable for the Warriors’ second unit.
Reid posted averages of 14.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game last season. In the playoff series against Golden State, he averaged 10.4 points per game, including a standout 19-point performance in Game 1.
Like Draymond Green, Reid is known for his defensive skills, shot-blocking, and generating fast-break opportunities through steals — traits that align well with the Warriors’ style and needs as they look to return to the top of the league.
Golden State is currently considered the frontrunner to land Reid, though several other teams — including the Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Los Angeles Lakers, and Toronto Raptors — are also expressing interest in the versatile big man.
