President Donald Trump is arranging for the Kansas City Chiefs to visit the White House, five years after their Super Bowl win.
On Saturday, March 22, while aboard Air Force One, Trump spoke with Clay Travis, the founder of the sports website Outkick. During their conversation about the Philadelphia Eagles’ scheduled White House visit on April 28 to celebrate their recent Super Bowl victory, Trump revealed that another team would also be making an appearance.“I look forward to having the Eagles,” Trump stated. “And one other thing, we’re going to have the Kansas City Chiefs after that, because they missed their turn because of COVID.”
However, he did not specify when the Chiefs’ visit would take place.
After hearing that Randi Mahomes, mother of Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes, and his wife Brittany are “big fans,” Trump responded, “I love those two women; they’re wonderful and incredibly loyal.”
He also mentioned having met them before.
PEOPLE has contacted the Kansas City Chiefs to verify whether the team has officially received a White House invitation.
Former President Donald Trump predicted the Chiefs would win this year’s Super Bowl during a Feb. 9 interview with Fox News but also praised Eagles running back Saquon Barkley.
The Eagles ultimately defeated the Chiefs 40-22, sparking speculation that they might forgo the traditional White House visit—similar to their decision after winning the Super Bowl in 2018.
Addressing their past refusal, Trump told Travis that the Eagles had actually wanted to visit in 2018. He claimed that several key figures, including head coach Doug Pederson, general manager Howie Roseman, and owner Jeffrey Lurie, were interested in attending.
