Just In: Cardinals Fans in Shock Nolan Arenado Roster Move Takes a shocking Twist.

Although the St. Louis Cardinals aren’t officially out of the playoff race, they’re trailing the New York Mets by four games, and their chances of reaching the postseason in 2025 are slim.

Still, with upcoming games against playoff-bound teams, the Cardinals could play a spoiler role in the National League’s final standings.

Arenado Returns to Lineup After Injury

Ahead of their series with the Cincinnati Reds, the Cardinals have activated star third baseman Nolan Arenado from the injured list. This will mark his first appearance since July 30 after missing time due to a shoulder injury. With just 12 games left in the regular season, Arenado is set to rejoin the lineup.

To make space on the roster, infielder José Fermín has been optioned to Triple-A.

While Arenado’s return could help fuel a last-ditch playoff push, the odds remain long. Before his injury, he was batting .235 with a .294 OBP and a .366 slugging percentage — resulting in a .660 OPS, the lowest of his career. His offensive numbers have dipped, though he’s maintained strong defensive performance. His 1.0 WAR through 96 games is lower than the 1.5 WAR he posted in just 46 games during the shortened 2020 season.

Potential Last Chapter in St. Louis?

Despite his struggles, Arenado remains a key contributor and could still help influence the playoff picture. The Cardinals will face the Reds, Cubs, Brewers, and Giants — all teams still in postseason contention — giving St. Louis a chance to shake things up in the National League.

With trade rumors circulating, this final stretch might mark the end of Arenado’s time in a Cardinals uniform. For now, though, he’s back, starting at third base and batting sixth in the lineup as he looks to finish the season on a high note.
