The New York Jets handed the offensive reins to Justin Fields this offseason and secured star receiver Garrett Wilson with a \$130 million extension. Now, they might be eyeing another former Ohio State standout—Washington Commanders wideout Terry McLaurin.
McLaurin is reportedly growing “disappointed and frustrated” over stalled contract negotiations in Washington and could be traded at any moment.
CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin highlighted the potential Buckeye reunion in New York, noting the shared Ohio State ties between Fields and McLaurin.“Like the Raiders, the Jets may not be pushing for a title in 2025 so much as laying the groundwork for a cultural reset,” Benjamin wrote. “They have nearly \$30 million in cap space and a clear need for a reliable target opposite Garrett Wilson. The connection between Fields and McLaurin from their college days, plus the presence of Scott Turner—McLaurin’s former play-caller in Washington—as passing game coordinator, makes New York a logical landing spot.”
Acquiring McLaurin would show strong faith in Fields, who flashed potential with the Steelers early in 2024. However, it’s worth noting that Fields couldn’t reclaim the starting job from Russell Wilson, casting some doubt on his long-term value.
Still, the Jets’ front office may be going all-in, potentially setting the stage for a playoff run centered around Fields, who led the Bears to just 10 wins in 38 games.
And if it all falls apart again in New York, at least fantasy football players might enjoy watching three former Buckeyes rack up stats in the chaos.
