A major turning point for the Florida Gators in 2024 came when quarterback Graham Mertz suffered an injury against Tennessee, forcing DJ Lagway to step in as the starter for the remainder of the season. Lagway helped Florida rally and finish the year strong, while Mertz focused on recovering—well enough to be selected by the Houston Texans in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Now, fans will get a closer look at Mertz’s recovery process thanks to a new Netflix documentary series debuting in August.Graham Mertz Appears in Netflix’s New SEC Series
Netflix has released the trailer for SEC Football: Any Given Saturday, a behind-the-scenes sports docuseries spotlighting the intensity of SEC football. The trailer prominently features DJ Lagway, but towards the end, the focus shifts to Mertz, showing him in a hospital bed after tearing his ACL in the Tennessee game.
In the clip, Mertz reflects on the setback, saying: “Whenever something goes bad, I can either feel sorry for myself, or I can embrace it and attack it. I still got a job to do.” The trailer then shows snippets of his rehab at Florida’s training facility.
SEC Football: Any Given Saturday premieres on Netflix August 5. The series, which was filmed during the 2024 season, includes appearances from multiple SEC programs—most notably LSU, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, and Florida.
According to Netflix, the series will offer “unfiltered access to coaches and players in college football’s most dominant conference,” and highlight pivotal matchups across the season.
