JUST IN: I Came Here Because Of Him”: New York Giants Top Prospect Reveals Reason Why He Wanted To Play With…

The New York Giants brought in Russell Wilson on a one-year contract this offseason to strengthen their quarterback situation. He’s set to start Week 1 when the Giants travel to face the Washington Commanders.

The 36-year-old veteran joins a quarterback depth chart that includes Jameis Winston as the backup, rookie Jaxson Dart in the third spot, and Tommy DeVito in fourth. Wilson spent the 2024 NFL season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After a 2024 season in which New York won only three games, the Giants are hoping Wilson can help change their fortunes. His signing marks a clear improvement over last year’s quarterback options.USATSI 26482880 168400517 lowresWilson recently spoke at Fanatics Fest in New York and explained his decision to join the Giants—highlighting wide receiver Malik Nabers as a major factor.

“I came here because of him. I really wanted to play with someone who is special like him,” Wilson said.

Last season, Wilson completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,482 yards, throwing 16 touchdowns and five interceptions. He added 155 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground, averaging 3.6 yards per carry.

Wilson is expected to rely heavily on Nabers, who had a standout 2024 season despite playing with one of the league’s weakest quarterback rooms. Nabers hauled in 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 11 yards per catch and ranking fifth in the league in receptions and seventh in receiving yards. He was targeted 170 times.

With a more stable presence under center, Nabers could be poised for an even bigger 2025 season—possibly surpassing the 1,500-yard receiving mark if he and Wilson quickly develop chemistry.
