The San Jose Sharks are eager to return to playoff contention as soon as possible. While they may have to endure another tough season before making a serious push, there are certain players they could pursue to make their team more difficult to play against.
One intriguing option is New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe, a pending restricted free agent. Given the roster changes happening in New York, the Rangers might be open to trading him or potentially not matching an offer sheet.
Rempe is widely considered one of the most physical players in the NHL. Though some of his hits have raised eyebrows, his presence on the ice is undeniably intimidating. In 42 games last season, he recorded three goals, five assists, and racked up 67 penalty minutes.
Standing at 6-foot-9 and weighing 254 pounds, Rempe would bring serious size and grit to the Sharks’ bottom six. With a bigger role, he might even unlock some offensive upside, especially if he develops into a strong net-front presence.
Acquiring Rempe would be a gamble, but it could pay off if he helps reshape the Sharks into a more imposing opponent. His next contract could be around \$1 million annually, and if the Rangers’ asking price is just a third-round pick, San Jose should seriously consider making the move.
