Just In: Panthers Officially Cut Ties with Veteran, More details.

What happens when a rebuilding team gets a call about its most dependable veteran—and progress isn’t coming fast enough? That’s the dilemma facing the Carolina Panthers, who may soon have to make a tough decision. Wide receiver Adam Thielen, the centerpiece of Carolina’s 2024 receiving group, is once again the subject of trade rumors. The latest buzz: a potential deal sending him to the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

As Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox explains, Thielen is entering the final year of his contract and no longer fits Carolina’s long-term plans. The Panthers are looking to get younger at wide receiver. Meanwhile, the Eagles are strong at the top with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith but lack depth. Jahan Dotson, acquired last year, disappointed with just 216 yards. Thielen, despite injury issues in 2024, still managed 48 catches for 615 yards and 5 touchdowns in 10 games—solid WR3 numbers.

A trade to Philly could make even more sense given Thielen’s previous connection with Eagles passing game coordinator Parks Frazier, who coached him in Carolina. But here’s the challenge: Thielen remains Bryce Young’s most reliable target, leading the team in catches and receiving yards last season. Still, at 34 and with an $8.5 million cap hit in 2025, his future in Carolina is uncertain. If the Panthers grab a wide receiver in the draft, dealing Thielen for a fifth-round pick could clear space for a young player to step up—and give the team extra draft capital.
