The Los Angeles Rams once again outperformed expectations last season, making it to the playoffs despite facing significant early-season adversity. Injuries plagued the team throughout the year, but they persevered and ultimately captured the NFC West crown.
A major reason for their success was the outstanding play of veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford. He consistently demonstrated that he can still compete at an elite level, often carrying the team through tough games. The Rams are thrilled to keep Stafford around, and the two sides have reached a new agreement to extend his time in Los Angeles. However, with Stafford getting older, retirement could be on the horizon.
Head coach Sean McVay offered a candid take on Stafford’s future with the franchise.
“Every time he’s on the field, we have a shot,” McVay told Adam Schein on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio. “I love working with him. I believe he can keep going as long as he wants, but I’m hopeful we have him for at least a few more seasons.”
Stafford delivered a solid performance last year, throwing for 3,762 yards with 20 touchdowns and just eight interceptions. He effectively utilized his talented receiving group and looked sharp throughout the season.
“He came out of the season feeling strong physically,” McVay added. “It’s a testament to him. In 2021, he went 4-0 in the playoffs and led us to a Super Bowl win. In 2023, he did everything he could in a tough loss to a strong Detroit team. And this past season, he played great against Minnesota and made big plays versus Philadelphia.”
Looking ahead, the Rams are eyeing another Super Bowl run with Stafford at the helm. With the addition of Davante Adams during the offseason, Los Angeles could be a dark horse contender in the upcoming campaign.
