Just In: Reds Fans Panic After Terry Francona Drops worrying update on Nick Lodolo.

It’s been a rough day for the Cincinnati Reds on the news front.

Nick Lodolo, who had just returned from a two-week stint on the injured list due to a blister on his throwing hand, was originally scheduled to start tonight’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays. However, he’s now been scratched because of an illness that’s severe enough for the team to pull him from the lineup.

Instead, Scott Barlow will start the game as part of a bullpen effort, according to Reds Live co-host Brian Giesenschlag on Twitter.

With the bullpen already stretched thin, the Reds made a corresponding roster move. Left-handed pitcher Reiver Sanmartin was brought back onto both the 40-man and active rosters to provide additional relief. To make room, Joe La Sorsa was designated for assignment, and Sam Moll was optioned to Triple-A.

Although Lodolo has been strong when healthy, he’s only pitched 6.1 innings since early August due to the blister issue. It’s unclear how long this illness will keep him out, as the team hasn’t said whether he’ll miss just this start or be delayed further.
