Just In: Surprise Reunion “Veteran Safety” Officially Confirms Return.

Buffalo Bills safety Jordan Poyer expressed heartfelt gratitude as he addressed the media Thursday during his return to Buffalo, calling it a special moment. “Amazing, amazing. Grateful to be here,” he said as he began his press conference.

Poyer’s journey in the NFL began as a seventh-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013. He was traded mid-season to the Cleveland Browns, where he spent three years before signing with the Bills in 2017. Over the next seven seasons, Poyer became one of the league’s top safeties in Buffalo. After spending last year with the Miami Dolphins, he now returns to the city where he made his mark.

“This is where my heart is,” Poyer said of Buffalo. “It’s home. It’s where I truly grew up in this game, both on and off the field. My daughter’s grown up here. I feel like this is my chance to give back—not just to the team, but to the community.”

He continued to emphasize how surreal and meaningful the moment was: “Just yesterday I was on a jet ski in the middle of the Atlantic with my daughter, and now I’m back here finishing my first practice. I’m just incredibly thankful.”

Poyer earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2021 and made the Pro Bowl in 2022. He recorded over 100 tackles in four seasons and totaled 22 interceptions during his initial tenure in Buffalo. His 2021 All-Pro season included 93 tackles, three sacks, five interceptions, and nine pass deflections.

When asked about his role this season, the 34-year-old veteran acknowledged that he’s in a different phase of his career but still believes he has more to offer.

“I know I’m not getting any younger, but I’ve still got something left in the tank,” he said. Reflecting on his time in Miami, Poyer described it as a tough year but chose not to dwell on it. “I’m not making excuses—it was just hard.”

Returning to Buffalo, Poyer said he’s motivated and ready to contribute. “I have a lot to prove—to myself, to the game, to those around me. I keep the receipts. I’m here to work, to help the younger guys, to be a leader. But make no mistake—I’m also here to play football at a high level.”
