Red Sox prospect Garcia is tearing it up in Triple-A Worcester, now slashing .305/.375/.587 following a scorching start to August. Nicknamed “The Password” due to his distinct first name spelling, Garcia has homered in three straight games and launched four total last week.
His performance earned him International League Player of the Week honors on Monday after he went 10-for-29 with four doubles and 13 RBIs across his last six games. Garcia has hit safely in 16 of his past 18 appearances.
His breakout season has vaulted him to No. 88 on MLB’s Top 100 Prospects list, making him the second-ranked player in Boston’s system behind shortstop Franklin Arias—after Kristian Campbell, Marcelo Mayer, and Roman Anthony graduated from prospect status.
Including his time in Double-A, Garcia owns a .288/.368/.518 slash line with 18 home runs this season. Of the eight hitters in the International League with a higher OPS, only elite catching prospect Samuel Basallo is younger.
Under different roster conditions, Garcia might already be pushing for a call-up. But with Boston’s crowded outfield, his path to consistent big-league playing time remains blocked. Though he could serve as a right-handed platoon option alongside lefties Jarren Duran, Roman Anthony, and Wilyer Abreu, Garcia is likely to remain in the minors for now.
