Looking at the current state of the Chicago Blackhawks’ roster, it’s clear they could benefit from adding more depth to their forward group. Bringing in another player to strengthen the bottom six might be a wise move for the storied franchise.
One intriguing free-agent option still on the market is forward Jakub Lauko.
Lauko became an unrestricted free agent on July 1 after the Boston Bruins chose not to extend him a qualifying offer. Since then, he’s remained unsigned, but he could be a worthwhile addition for the Blackhawks.Last season, Lauko split his time between the Boston Bruins and Minnesota Wild, posting career highs with five goals and 11 points in 56 games. He also brought a physical edge, recording 119 hits over the season.
Known for his high energy, grit, and physical play, Lauko could serve as a solid depth option for Chicago’s fourth line. At just 24, he fits the mold of a rebuilding team and offers versatility by being able to play both center and wing.
A short-term contract or professional tryout (PTO) could be a low-risk move that pays off for the Blackhawks.
As August approaches, most NHL unrestricted free agents have already found new teams, leading to a slower pace around the league—typical for this stage of the offseason.
